+YOUR MOST INFLUENTIAL MENTOR

My greatest influence is a partner for whom I worked as a junior corporate associate. He is one of the smartest people I have ever met. He speaks at least four languages fluently, travels the world extensively, has a thirst for learning all things new and is one of the sharpest legal minds out there. He sees all sides of an issue and already has a counter to your argument before your brain even starts to formulate the argument. And he is one of the nicest, genuine people I have ever met. He has a fantastic sense of humor, and believes, like me, in the virtues of being both a gourmet and a gourmand. I wish I were half as well-rounded as he is.

+ YOUR FAVORITE BOOK

Pride and Prejudice and A Prayer for Owen Meany . And the geek inside me can't resist The Lord of the Rings.

+ YOUR PROFESSION AND WHY YOU CHOSE IT

As a practicing lawyer, I was surprised by the number of recruiters who called and didn't understand the basic parameters of the jobs they were calling on. I found myself helping them understand what kind of person and experience was needed. I realized I could add far more value to the recruiting profession than these recruiters were and decided to make the jump. I've had no regrets.

+ YOUR ADVICE FOR CHOOSING A CAREER

Be completely honest with yourself about what drives you and compels you – that's the direction to go in.

+ YOUR VIEW OF LAW AND COMPLIANCE

More than ever, companies are looking to be proactive to fight off regulatory inquiries and are doing so by implementing significant compliance programs that can help maintain the company's reputation and brand. These compliance programs are not the "back office" programs of years past but are front-facing, visible and considered extremely important in helping to stop problems before they have a chance to start. This is an exciting time to be a lawyer to transition into a compliance role.
