+ YOUR MOST INFLUENTIAL MENTOR

My brother-in-law, Hugh. When I first contemplated whether or not to start a business, I trusted his counsel. Not being sure how or where to begin, he said "put together a business plan." So we wrote it on the back of a napkin and then discussed the issues facing a start-up. He gave me confidence, encouraged my desire to be an entrepreneur and was generous with his sound advice.

+ YOUR FAVORITE BOOK

I recently read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged and found it interesting to see how a book written so long ago applies today.

+ YOUR PROFESSION AND WHY YOU CHOSE IT

While interviewing for jobs through a number of search firms back in the late 1980's, I was told "You would be a great headhunter." At the time, few lawyers were pursuing this career. I loved advocacy, learning everything there was to know about a client and networking which are all key elements of a successful recruiting career. Keeping an open mind about my job has led me to a long and fulfilling career of making great matches, which is something I really enjoy.

+ YOUR ADVICE FOR CHOOSING A CAREER

Stay as receptive as possible to new ideas. Be open. Try to balance what you love with the kind of lifestyle you wish to live.

+ YOUR VIEW OF LAW AND COMPLIANCE OPPORTUNITIES

In light of today's increased regulation, law and compliance are an essential part of every business's future. Respect and the need for the best and brightest in these areas is growing.

+ PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts." Churchill
